Bridging the Clarity Gap
Your intuition carries you to a point, and then it runs out. Maybe you've wondered if that's a talent problem. It's not! It is the moment the skill was supposed to take over, the skill nobody ever taught you.
If you've been through the Clarity Kit, you've already met three of the tools that skill is built from: variety, value, and color. They are powerful, and for many artists they lift a painting faster than anything else. But they are the doorway, not the whole room.
The full language of art is much bigger, and learning to use all of it together, on your own paintings, is what finally closes the gap. And the language is only part of the journey. Living Abstracts takes you all the way through: understanding what drives your work, quieting the fear and perfectionism that make decisions before your brush touches the canvas, building a process you can return to, and trusting your own eye enough to call a painting done. That is what it really takes. Not three tools. The whole picture.
Everything Included Inside the Membership
- All 8 In-Depth Modules Available From Day One
Work through the curriculum at your own pace, in the order that makes sense for where you are. Every module includes an Art Practice section where I demonstrate how to apply the concepts, and then you try them on real decisions in your own paintings. - A Live Q&A With Me Every Month
Once a month, join me live in the evening for a Q&A where you can bring your questions about painting, and I'll pick one or two member paintings to teach from so we can all learn together. Can't make it live? Post your question in the community ahead of time, and I'll answer it on the call so you can catch it in the replay. Dates are posted in the community well ahead of time, and we take a break in July and over the last two weeks of December, so that's 11 live sessions a year. - Every Replay, Ready When You Are
Every Q&A is recorded and uploaded to the community, including the sessions from before you joined, so you can watch them whenever it suits you. - A Members' Community
A place to introduce yourself, share your paintings, ask your questions and see what the other artists are working on. - Two Quiet Supports for the Harder Days
A short encouragement audio for when doubt creeps in, and a printable guide to sit beside you while you paint.

Your Journey From
Self-Doubt to Creative Independence

Uncover what actually drives your work by exploring your preferences, inspirations, and what you're truly trying to express.
Through guided exercises, you'll connect with what feels authentic to you, beyond trends, expectations, or outside influence.
You'll finish this module with clarity about your voice, a stronger sense of direction, and genuine excitement to create from a place that feels real.
This is where the Clarity Framework begins, helping you reconnect with your intuition and set the stage for confident, authentic painting.
The journey of the artist
Learn to work alongside fear instead of letting it stop you.
This module helps you recognize when self-doubt and perfectionism are taking over, so you can pause, reset, and keep moving forward. You'll work through the beliefs that hold you back and start making creative choices from trust instead of fear.
This module strengthens the mindset you'll need throughout the Clarity Framework, so you can approach each stage with courage and move through resistance when it shows up.
Stepping into the world of color
Learn how to use color to express emotion and energy in your work.
This module introduces essential color concepts, and then invites you to experiment with them boldly. You'll start using color to say something.
You'll gain the confidence to make color choices that feel alive, intentional, and fully your own.
This module enters Intuition & Visual Language in the Clarity Framework, helping you make color choices that carry what you want to say.
The visual language of art
Learn how to create strong, intentional compositions by understanding the elements and principles of art, balance, contrast, movement, and how they work together.
This module gives you practical tools to make your paintings feel clear, dynamic, and complete, without losing the personal expression that makes your work yours.
You'll start to see your paintings take shape with more clarity and impact, while staying true to your own style.
This module is at the core of Intuition & Visual Language in the Clarity Framework, helping you see what's working, what needs attention, and make confident choices as your painting evolves.
Exploring depth & diversity
Learn how to use the elements and principles to bring more richness and complexity into your work, through layering, contrast, and variety.
This module shows you how to push creative boundaries in a way that feels honest and intentional, adding interest, dimension, and subtlety to your paintings.
You'll learn how to make your work feel more dynamic and alive, without overwhelming what's already working.
This module strengthens Intention & Process in the Clarity Framework, helping you add depth and refinement with intention so your paintings feel complete and unmistakably yours.
Building on the color fundamentals
Deepen your understanding of color by exploring harmony, contrast, and more advanced techniques.
Building on what you learned in Module 3, you'll learn how to use color with greater intention, creating work that feels more dynamic, expressive, and true to what you want to say.
This module helps you expand your creative vocabulary and unlock new possibilities in your painting process.
This module deepens Intention & Process in the Clarity Framework, helping you use color with greater intention so every layer becomes a deliberate choice.
Becoming an independent artist
By now, you've built a process and a way of seeing. This module is where it all becomes yours. You learn to evaluate your own paintings without waiting for someone to confirm what you see. You stop asking "is this good?" and start saying "here's what I see, and here's what it needs next."
You'll work with the moments where doubt usually takes over: the messy middle, the almost-finished painting, the canvas that feels off. And you'll learn how to take in outside feedback without losing your own voice.
This module brings together all parts of the Clarity Framework, helping you move fluidly between intuition and technique, emotion and assessment, freedom and refinement.

Igniting creativity through the painting process
Watch me paint on multiple canvases, demonstrating how everything you've learned, the visual language, color concepts, mindset shifts, works together in real time.
You'll see how I move through challenges, make decisions, and know when to stop. This isn't a polished demo, it's the actual process, including the messy parts.
This final module brings the entire Clarity Framework to life, combining everything into a clear, grounded process you can return to again and again. You'll finish the course able to approach your work with confidence, freedom, and clarity, no matter what stage you're in.
Support for moments that feel uncertain.
Growth doesn't happen all at once. So I've created two quiet supports for the days when doubt shows up and you need to reconnect with your voice and trust your next step.
A short encouragement audio
When doubt creeps in, press play. I'll be right there with you.
Some days, painting feels like a fight. You second-guess everything.
This short audio was made for those days, to remind you that doubt isn't something to fix. It's a sign you care.
It's a real voice from someone who's been there, and still finds herself there sometimes, saying:
You're not alone.
This is part of it.
You're doing the work.
Navigate your painting process
Create with Confidence and Clarity
This printable guide supports you through the three trickiest parts of painting: how to begin with intention, how to move forward when you feel stuck, and how to recognize when your work is done.
You'll get clear, actionable prompts to help you understand what your painting needs next, and stay with your process even when doubt shows up.
It's honest, specific, and made to sit beside you while you paint. With this guide, you'll approach your canvas with more clarity and more trust in your own decisions.
What you'll achieve
Move from stuck to clear
Your paintings will stop feeling busy, flat, or overworked. You'll stop overthinking every mark and second-guessing your choices. Instead, you'll build a process you can trust, one that brings clarity and structure to your intuitive way of working, so you can move forward with confidence.
Make stronger, more confident decisions
You'll move through the messy middle without freezing or wanting to give up. You'll learn to see your work clearly, what's working, what needs more, and when it's time to stop. And you'll understand how to use elements like line, shape, and contrast to support your expression, not override it.
Finish more work that feels like you
You'll start to see your personal voice show up consistently in your paintings, and feel proud of what you've created instead of comparing it to others. This isn't about painting a certain way. It's about learning to paint like you.
“Now I can finally paint with confidence and freedom, and experiment without fear or self-criticism.”Â

Hi! I'm Cathy Mevik, Artist and Mentor
For a long time, I painted almost entirely on intuition. And when something started to feel real... I'd paint over it. Not because I didn't know it was working. Because it scared me. Fear of ruining it. Fear of it being seen. Fear that even if it was good, it still wasn't enough.
The turning point was discovering that there's an actual language for what I was sensing. Once I learned to speak it, everything changed. The best part was that I didn't have to treat it as rules. I could use it as tools. And I didn't lose my intuition in the process. I strengthened it.
I started finishing paintings I was proud of. Not the perfect paintings I had in my head, but paintings I actually felt connected to. Once I could see my work clearly, I stopped guessing.
It's why I started teaching, and exactly why I created Living Abstracts. I'm not here to make you paint like me or tell you how you should paint.
I'm here to give you the visual language to see your work clearly, and the confidence to make strong decisions on your own.
But it hasn't always felt that way
I took countless courses, even completed a three-year art education. You'd think that would be enough, but it wasn't.
Painting often felt like a fight. I'd freeze the moment I made a mark, afraid to mess it up. Scrolling Instagram made it worse, because I compared, second-guessed, and kept listening to the voice in my head telling me, "You're not good enough."
One painting would come together easily, while the next felt like I'd forgotten how to paint. I wanted to trust myself, but how could I when I was so inconsistent? And creating work that wasn't a copy or inspired by others? That always felt out of reach.
If you feel this way now, please know that you are not alone.
Things didn't change overnight. But they did change.
Looking back, I realized I'd only been given fragments... scattered skills, tips, and ideas. When what I needed was a way to bring everything together so I could actually see what was working in my paintings.
The breakthrough wasn't learning to trust my intuition more. It was learning the tools that would help me see.
Everything changed once I started to understand the visual language of art... how the elements and principles actually function together, as a way to assess my work clearly. Suddenly, I could tell what was alive and working, and what needed refining.
Little by little, I built a process that gave me both clarity and freedom. The fear didn't disappear. But I learned to work with it, because now I had solid tools to rely on.
For the first time, I was consistently finishing paintings that felt unmistakably mine. Honest paintings that I kept refining and fell in love with.
No artist should have to keep circling the same frustrations without direction. That's why I created The Clarity Framework, a four-stage process that helps you move from frustration and confusion to confidence and independence, from stuck to finished work you love.
I know, because I've stood exactly where you are now.
The Clarity Framework
Living Abstracts takes you through the essential stages that every artist needs to work through to become a confident and independent artist. Inside the membership, you work through each one at your own pace, and once a month we come together live, so you can build them into a way of working you'll carry with you for the rest of your painting life.
This is the journey Living Abstracts takes you through... a complete path from understanding what drives your work to trusting your own decisions on the canvas. Each capacity builds on the last. Together they change how you see, how you think, and how you work.
Identity & Mindset
Clarify what drives your work, understand yourself as an artist, and recognize fear and perfectionism without letting them dictate your decisions.
Intuition & Visual Language
Strengthen your intuition while learning how the elements and principles of art actually function together, so expression and structure stop competing.
Intention & Process
Develop a clear method for evaluating your paintings, so you make deliberate adjustments instead of reactive ones.
Independence & Confidence
Start believing in your way of working as the right way of working. Rely on what you see and what you know, and finish paintings that are unmistakably yours.
When these four things work together, the way you work changes forever. You stop painting in reaction mode. You stop second-guessing. You start making strong decisions that support the intuitive parts of your painting, and finish paintings you're proud of.
I've worked with close to 1,000 abstract artists.
My paintings are represented by galleries, sold privately, and shown in exhibitions.
I live the work I teach.

“The flow of Living Abstracts is brilliant.”
The flow of Living Abstracts is brilliant, guiding you step-by-step through everything an abstract artist needs. My biggest aha-moment was learning how to mix a value palette to harmonize any colors. I only wish I’d had this when I was first starting out!

“Everything Finally makes sense!”
I’ve taken other online courses and been part of painting clubs, but Cathy explains composition and color mixing so clearly, that everything finally makes sense. Painting is so much easier, and more fun, now that I understand what I’m doing.

Are we a good match?
Whether you're three years in or fifteen, the frustration is the same: you know you have more to say, but you’re tired of guessing how to say it.
This membership is for dedicated, intermediate abstract artists who want to keep growing at their own pace, with the full course and a community of artists walking the same path.
You have been painting for a while, but you feel stuck. Sometimes your work feels strong and completely yours, and then the next painting falls apart and you don't know how to move forward without ruining what's there. That inconsistency is frustrating. It leads to hesitation. Second-guessing. Overworking. Walking away from paintings before they are done.
You're tired! Tired of jumping from course to course collecting bits and pieces and never seeing the full picture. You don't want partial answers anymore. You want to understand what your painting actually needs so you can make clear, strong decisions.
You have compared yourself to other artists and quietly wondered what you are missing. Maybe you've even wondered if it's something about you. In my experience, it usually means you're ready for a different kind of teaching.
My heart is in this course, but it was designed for yours
