A mentored journey in abstract painting

You’ve taken the courses.  Followed your instincts. Gathered advice.

And still, your paintings don’t feel like you.

Because the real problem isn’t your effort.  It’s not understanding why something isn’t working, and what to do next.

You've got what it takes — you just need someone who can give you the tools,  help you see your work clearly, and guide you through the messy parts.

The next course begins August 25th, 2025.

I teach in small groups of 10, so I can support each artist fully.
If something says this might be your next step, I’d love to see your application
.

Start Your Application

Most abstract artists already have plenty of inspiration

If you’re like most of the artists I work with, you don’t need more inspiration — you need a clear way through the confusion. A process that helps you finish what you start, hold onto your voice, and feel proud of what you create.

You want to trust your choices.
To stop second-guessing every move.
To finish more paintings with intention — not just luck.
And to finally feel proud of work that reflects who you really are.

Your voice isn’t missing. It’s just waiting for for you to get to know yourself as an artist.

Hi! I'm Cathy Mevik — artist and art instructor

For a long time, I put everyone else’s needs before my own. Somewhere along the way, I stopped listening to myself — in life, and in art.

Then I started painting — and something shifted.

Not just creatively, but emotionally. It gave me a way to express what I had spent years trying to hold in.

Expressive abstract painting opened doors I didn’t even know I had closed. For the first time, my work felt honest — like it came from somewhere real inside me.

But it hasn't always felt that way

I’ve taken a lot of courses. I even went through a full three-year art education. You’d think that would’ve been enough, but it wasn’t.

Paintng on canvas felt like a fight more often than not. I’d freeze even before making a mark, afraid to mess it up.

Scrolling Instagram made things worse. I’d compare, second-guess, and hear the same voice over and over always telling me:  “ You're not good enough.”

I didn’t get it. How could one painting come together so easily — and the very next feel like I’d forgotten how to paint?

I wanted to trust myself, but I how could I when I was so inconsitent.
And that thing everyone talks about — “finding your voice”?
That always felt out of reach.

If this is how you feel now, know that you are not alone.

Things didn’t change overnight. But they did change.

At some point, I realized I hadn’t been given the full picture. I only had fragments — scattered bits of skills and advice, techniques, and ideas. But what I really needed was a way to bring it all together.

So I pulled everything apart. I looked at what I already knew and what felt true. Some answers came through trial and error. Some by accident. But over time, I started building something that actually worked for me.

Little by little, I created a process I could trust. Not one that boxed me in, but one that gave me just enough structure to move forward without all the doubt.

The fear and hesitation didn’t disappear. But I learned to work with them instead of letting them stop me.

And for the first time, I was finishing paintings consistently. And the best parg? They actually felt like mine.

Not perfect. Just honest. And that changed everything.

No artist should have to keep circling the same frustrations without direction. When you finally see the whole picture, you begin to grow faster, deeper, and with more confidence than you imagined.

I know, because I’ve stood exactly where you are now.

You need to build a strong foundation!

Many artists believe they can finish a painting through intuition alone.
But when something always feels a bit off, it’s not about talent — it’s about missing knowledge.

Understanding things like color, value, and contrast helps you make decisions you can trust.
These are the things that make the difference between creating a successful painting — or staying stuck in confusion.

It’s not about rules. It’s not about talent.
It’s about having the tools and understanding to create with confidence and intention.

When your foundation is strong, your intuition can finally flow.

This is how your emotions become visible.
And how your paintings start to feel like they’re saying something real.

You need a strong mindset to paint loose and free!

It’s hard to paint freely when you’re full of doubt and unsure of how to move forward.

The fear of getting it wrong, of being judged, of not being “good enough” — it can take over quickly.

Knowing who you are as an artist helps you build a mindset that carries you through the hard days.

It’s what helps you take risks, trust your instincts, and create work you truly love — work you’re proud to share.

It’s also what allows your paintings to connect on an emotional level.
It’s what makes someone want to hang your art on their wall — because they feel something when they look at it.

Your truth matters. Your voice matters.
And when you start trusting that, your art changes — and so do you.

What you’ll achieve

Move from stuck to clear

So your paintings start to feel more like you. You’ll stop overthinking each mark and begin building a process you can trust. You’ll learn how to bring structure into your intuitive way of working — so you’re painting not just with emotion, but with clarity and direction.

Make stronger, more confident decisions

In your painting process, you’ll be able to move through stuck points without freezing or second-guessing. You’ll understand how to use color, value, and contrast in ways that support your expression — and you’ll learn how to see your work more clearly: when something’s working, when it needs more, and when it’s time to stop.

Finish more work that feels like you

And feel proud of what you’ve created. You’ll start to see your personal voice show up more consistently in your paintings. This isn’t about painting a certain way — it’s about learning to paint like *you*, with more freedom, depth, and confidence than ever before.

Is this the right course for you?

This course is for committed abstract artists who are ready to go deeper — into their work, their voice, and their process.

You might recognize yourself if:

  • You’ve taken other courses but still feel stuck in your painting process
  • You keep hitting the same wall and don’t know how to move forward
  • You want to paint with more freedom — but also more clarity
  • You long to express something real, but it never quite comes through
  • You’ve made work you like, but finishing consistently still feels hard
  • You’re tired of circling the same frustrations and ready for lasting change

This course is for artists who are ready to show up — not with perfect art or perfect answers, but with honesty. You don’t need to feel confident. You just need to be willing.

If you feel the pull to finally paint in a way that feels like you, then this course was made for you.

You’ve gathered some pieces — now let’s complete the picture

You’ve taken courses. Tried new techniques. Followed your intuition. You’ve already collected pieces of what you need.

But if things still feel disconnected, it’s not because you’re doing it wrong — it’s because no one has helped you bring it all together.

That’s exactly what this course is for. To give you the structure, clarity, and support you’ve been missing — so you can connect what you already know with a process that actually works.

You’ll paint using tools that will stay with you long after the course ends. This isn’t another scattered lesson — it’s a turning point.

This is where things finally click. And where your art begins to feel like it’s truly yours.

The next round begins August 25th, 2025.

How we’ll move through this journey together

This course is designed to give you structure without pressure — space to go deep, reflect, and grow with guidance each week.

Each week, you'll receive a new set of video lessons focused on one part of the painting process. These lessons are pre-recorded, so you can choose the time that works best for you — but I can support you best in the live feedback sessions and help guide your process as it unfolds if you stay on track with the weekly rhythm.

You’ll have access to the full course content for a year, so you can revisit any lesson as often as you like — especially if you want to come back to something later or go deeper at your own pace.

In addition to the lessons, we'll meet live every week for a feedback call. I'll review your work, help you get unstuck, and guide you through whatever's coming up in your process.

Around halfway through the course, we'll take a break from new content and meet for a full-length live painting session. You'll see how I work through stuck points in real time — and you’ll have space that week to reflect, experiment, or catch up.

Time Commitment:

To get the most out of this course, I recommend setting aside 4 to 6 hours per week. That usually includes:

  • Watching the lessons (1 to 1.5 hours)
  • Studio time to explore and apply the week's focus (2 to 4 hours)
  • Optional time engaging in the community or watching feedback from others (around 30 minutes)

This course is about depth, not speed. Some weeks will feel full of momentum. Others may feel slower and more reflective. Both are part of the process.

Some days, painting feels like a fight. You second-guess everything.

This short audio was created for those days — to remind you that doubt isn’t something to fix. It’s a sign you care.

It’s not a lesson. It’s not a pep talk.
It’s a real voice from someone who’s been there — and still finds herself there sometimes — saying:
You’re not alone.
You’re not doing it wrong.
You’re doing the work.

This printable guide supports you through the three trickiest parts of painting: how to begin with intention, how to move forward when you feel stuck, and how to recognize when your work is done.

You’ll get clear, actionable prompts to help you connect to your voice, understand what your painting needs next, and stay in rhythm with your process — even when doubt shows up.

It’s gentle, honest, and made to sit beside you as you paint. With this guide, you’ll approach your canvas with more clarity, more trust, and the confidence to keep going.

Paint live with me

Exclusive live painting session during the break week

Step into the studio with me for a full-length live session that brings the process to life — raw, real, and unrehearsed.

Between Week 4 and 5, we pause the lessons and come together to paint. You’ll see how I navigate stuck points, make intuitive choices, and stay grounded through the ups and downs of a real painting session.

This is where the ideas in the course meet the reality of the canvas — emotions, challenges, and all.

If two cohorts are running at once, we’ll share the session — a rare chance to connect with a wider circle of artists walking the same path. Bring your brushes, your questions, and your curiosity.

Each of these extras is yours to keep — to revisit whenever you want to reflect, reset, or reconnect with your process.

“An incredibly rewarding course.”

Cathy is a clear and inspiring teacher. I had so many “AHA” moments, and the group sessions were especially powerful. I’ve learned so much and feel deeply grateful.

Eila Väisänen

“This gave me more than I expected — and more than other courses ever did.”

Other courses taught me to copy. This one helped me create with confidence. Cathy’s teaching gave me the tools, insight, and support I needed to grow as an artist — on my own terms. I felt truly seen and guided every step of the way.

Anita AlvsĂĄker

“I finally understand who I am as an artist.”

Cathy teaches the why behind painting — not just what to do. Her course helped me discover my color preferences and connect deeply with my own voice. It’s the best course I’ve ever taken, and I keep coming back to the modules again and again.

Hildegun Ravnanger Sivertsen

“Don’t hesitate — just sign up!”

I’ve taken other online courses and been part of painting clubs, but Cathy is the best. She explains composition and color mixing so clearly, that everything finally makes sense. Painting is so much easier — and more fun — now that I understand what I’m doing.
