You paint over the best parts, because you think it's not good enough. I get it... I used to do that too.
When you don't know what your painting needs next, doubt gets loud, so you start "fixing" what was actually the best part.
Living Abstracts is a journey from self-doubt to creative independence that gives you the visual language to see what your canvas actually needs, make intentional decisions, and finish paintings that feel unmistakably yours.
It's a 6-month, application-only mentorship with live feedback calls — max 5 artists per call — so every session is about your work, your decisions, your next step.Â

Your Intuition Got You Here.
But It Can't Get You Out.
Using your intuition, you're able to get to a certain point with your abstract paintings. But then you hit a wall. Your gut is telling your your painting is unfinished, but you have no idea what to do next.
So you keep going. You adjust, you add, you try to fix it. And in the process, you lose the very thing that made it work. The painting ends up lifeless. Overworked. A shadow of what it was. And you're left feeling defeated.
That's not a lack of talent. That's a lack of visual language. Without it, intuition has nowhere to go, so doubt fills the gap instead.
This is the Clarity Gap... the space between intuitive creation and intentional refinement. And it's exactly where this journey begins.
This isn't a lecture hall. It's a private table for five. I see your work, every week, in real-time.
Bridging the clarity gap
You struggle see what your paintings need because you’re missing two critical things... the tools that come from understanding the visual language of art, and the awareness to use those tools intentionally.
The Clarity Framework is how we cross it together.
It's the process I built around the visual language of art and the 14 essential tools of the visual language—the building blocks that let you finally say what you mean on the canvas.
The breakthrough isn't trusting your intuition more. It's learning to trust what you can see.
Hi! I'm Cathy Mevik — artist and mentor
For a long time, I painted almost entirely on intuition. And when something started to feel real — I'd paint over it. Not because I didn't know it was working. Because it scared me. Fear of ruining it. Fear of it being seen. Fear that even if it was good, it still wasn't enough.
The turning point was discovering that there's an actual language for what I was sensing. Once I learned to speak it, everything changed. The best part was that I didn't have to treat it as rules. I could use it as tools. And I didn't lose my intuition in the process. I strengthened it.
I started finishing paintings I was proud of. Not the perfect paintings I had in my head, but paintings I actually felt connected to. Once I could see my work clearly, I stopped guessing.
It's why I started teaching — and exactly why I created Living Abstracts. I'm not here to make you paint like me or tell you how you should paint.
I'm here to give you the visual language to see your work clearly — and the confidence to make strong decisions on your own.
But it hasn't always felt that way
I took countless courses—even completed a three-year art education. You'd think that would be enough, but it wasn't.
Painting often felt like a fight. I'd freeze the moment I made a mark, afraid to mess it up. Scrolling Instagram made it worse, because I compared, second-guessed, and kept listening to the voice in my head telling me, "You're not good enough."
One painting would come together easily, while the next felt like I'd forgotten how to paint. I wanted to trust myself, but how could I when I was so inconsistent? And creating work that wasn't a copy or inspired by others? That always felt out of reach.
If you feel this way now, please know that you are not alone.
Things didn't change overnight. But they did change.
Looking back, I realized I'd only been given fragments... scattered skills, tips, and ideas. When what I needed was a way to bring everything together so I could actually see what was working in my paintings.
The breakthrough wasn't learning to trust my intuition more. It was learning the tools that would help me see.
Everything changed once I started to understand the visual language of art... how the elements and principles actually function together, as a way to assess my work clearly. Suddenly, I could tell what was alive and worth protecting versus what needed refining.
Little by little, I built a process that gave me both clarity and freedom. The fear didn't disappear. But I learned to work with it — because now I had solid tools to rely on.
For the first time, I was consistently finishing paintings that felt unmistakably mine. Honest paintings that I kept refining and fell in love with.
No artist should have to keep circling the same frustrations without direction. That's why I created The Clarity Framework — a four-stage process that helps you move from frustration and confusion to confidence and independence, from stuck to finished work you love.
I know, because I've stood exactly where you are now.
The Clarity Framework
Living Abstracts takes you through the essential stages that every artist needs to work through to become a confident and independent artist. Over six months, I guide you through each one, and help you integrate them into a way of working you'll you'll carry with you for the rest of your painting life.
This is the journey Living Abstracts takes you through... a complete path from understanding what drives your work to trusting your own decisions on the canvas. Each capacity builds on the last. Together they change how you see, how you think, and how you work.
Identity & Mindset
Clarify what drives your work, understand yourself as an artist — and recognize fear and perfectionism without letting them dictate your decisions.
Intuition & Visual Language
Strengthen your intuition while learning how the elements and principles of art actually function together — so expression and structure stop competing.
Intention & Process
Develop a clear method for evaluating your paintings — so you make deliberate adjustments instead of reactive ones.
Independence & Confidence
Start believing in your way of working as the right way of working. Rely on what you see and what you know, and finish paintings that are unmistakably yours.
When these four things work together, the way you work changes forever. You stop painting in reaction mode. You stop second-guessing. You start making strong decision that support the intuitive parts of your painting — and finish paintings you're proud of.
Are we a good match?
Whether you're three years in or fifteen, the frustration is the same: you know you have more to say, but you’re tired of guessing how to say it.
This mentorship is for dedicated, intermediate abstract artists who are committed to showing up and doing the work — because they know that commitment is what makes the difference.
You have been painting for a while, but you feel stuck. Sometimes your work feels strong and completely yours — and then the next painting falls apart and you don't know how to move forward without ruining what's there. That inconsistency is frustrating. It leads to hesitation. Second-guessing. Overworking. Walking away from paintings before they are done.
You're tired! Tired of jumping from course to course collecting bits and pieces and never seeing the full picture. You don't want partial answers anymore. You want to understand what your painting actually needs so you can make clear, strong decisions.
You have compared yourself to other artists and quietly wondered what you are missing. That feeling is not a character flaw. It is a sign that you are ready for a different kind of teaching.Â

You won't be invisible. You'll be seen, supported, and guided throughout your entire journey.
Learn to Paint With Confidence and Direction
The Clarity Framework gives you the visual language to see what your paintings actually need — and a repeatable process to move forward with intention, instead of guessing.
Daily support in a private community Â
Beyond the weekly calls, I'm in the community every weekday — responding to your work, answering questions, and helping you keep moving forward throughout the full six months.
Tools, Trust, and a Process That Stays With You
You'll learn the tools the language of art gives you until they become second nature — so you can assess your work clearly and make confident decisions that will change the way you paint.
What you'll achieve
Move from stuck to clear
Your paintings will stop feeling busy, flat, or overworked. You'll stop overthinking every mark and second-guessing your choices. Instead, you'll build a process you can trust—one that brings clarity and structure to your intuitive way of working, so you can move forward with confidence.
Make stronger, more confident decisions
You'll move through the messy middle without freezing or wanting to give up. You'll learn to see your work clearly — what's working, what needs more, and when it's time to stop. And you'll understand how to use elements like line, shape, and contrast to support your expression, not override it.
Finish more work that feels like you
You'll start to see your personal voice show up consistently in your paintings—and feel proud of what you've created instead of comparing it to others. This isn't about painting a certain way. It's about learning to paint like you.

“This mentorship gave me more than I expected — and more than other courses ever did.”
Other courses taught me to copy. This one helped me create with confidence. Cathy gave me the tools, insight, and support I needed to grow as an artist — on my own terms. I felt truly seen and guided every step of the way.
AnitaÂ
“I finally understand who I am as an artist.”
Cathy teaches the why behind painting — not just what to do. Her course helped me discover my color preferences and connect deeply with my own voice. It’s the best course I’ve ever taken, and I keep coming back to the modules again and again.

A short encouragement audio
When doubt creeps in, press play. I'll be right there with you.
Some days, painting feels like a fight. You second-guess everything.
This short audio was created for those days—to remind you that doubt isn't something to fix. It's a sign you care.
It's not a lesson. It's not a pep talk.
It's a real voice from someone who's been there—and still finds herself there sometimes—saying:
You're not alone.
You're not doing it wrong.
You're doing the work.
Navigate your painting process
