You paint over the best parts, because you think it's not good enough. I get it... because I used to do that too.

When you don't know what your painting needs next, doubt gets loud, so you start 'fixing' what was actually the best part.

Living Abstracts gives you the visual language to see what your canvas actually needs, make intentional decisions, and finish paintings that feel unmistakably yours.

It's an 8-week, application-only mentorship with weekly live feedback (max 5 artists per call). Applications close May 3rd.

Your Intuition Got You Here. But It Can't Get You Out.

Using your intuition, you're able to get to a certain point with your abstract paintings. But then you hit a wall. You know the painting is unfinished, but you have no idea what to do next.

So you keep going. You adjust, you add, you try to fix it. And in the process, you lose the very thing that made it work. The painting ends up lifeless. Overworked. A shadow of what it was.

And you're left feeling defeated.

This is the Clarity Gap — the space between intuitive creation and intentional refinement.  And it's exactly where this journey begins.

Hi! I'm Cathy Mevik — artist and mentor

For a long time, I painted almost entirely on intuition. And when something started to feel real — I'd paint over it. Not because I didn't know it was working. Because it scared me. Fear of ruining it. Fear of it being seen. Fear that even if it was good, it still wasn't enough.

The turning point was discovering that there's an actual language for what I was sensing. Once I learned to speak it, everything changed. The best part was that I didn't have to treat it as rules. I could use it as tools. And I didn't lose my intuition in the process. I strengthened it.

I started finishing paintings I was proud of. Not the perfect paintings I had in my head, but paintings I actually felt connected to. Once I could see my work clearly, I stopped guessing.

It's why I started teaching — and exactly why I created Living Abstracts. I'm not here to make you paint like me or tell you how you should paint.

I'm here to give you the visual language to see your work clearly — and the confidence to make strong decisions on your own.

The Clarity Framework

Living Abstracts develops four essential capacities that dedicated abstract artists need in order to work independently. Over eight weeks, I guide you through each one deliberately — and help you integrate them into a repeatable way of working you'll use long after the course ends.

This is the journey Living Abstracts takes you through — a complete path from understanding what drives your work to trusting your own decisions on the canvas. Each capacity builds on the last. Together they change how you see, how you work, and how you finish.

Identity & Mindset

Clarify what drives your work, understand yourself as an artist — and recognize fear and perfectionism without letting them dictate your decisions.

Intuition & Visual Language

Strengthen your intuition while learning how the elements and principles of art actually function together — so expression and structure stop competing.

Intention & Process

Develop a clear method for evaluating your paintings — so you make deliberate adjustments instead of reactive ones. Because when you have a real process to return to, your paintings get stronger and evolve over time.

Independence & Confidence

Start believing in your way of working as the right way of working. Rely on what you see and what you know — and finish paintings you can stand behind.

When these four things work together, something shifts permanently. You stop painting in reaction mode. You stop second-guessing. You start making decisions you can stand behind — and finishing paintings you're genuinely proud of.

The 8-Week Journey

Each week builds one capacity of the Clarity Framework — moving you from instinct-driven painting to confident decision-making.

Week 1–2: Identity & Mindset
Before anything technical, we start with you. Who you are as an artist, what drives your work, and what gets in the way. Fear, perfectionism, and self-doubt control your decisions in the studio long before the brush touches the canvas — and until those are addressed directly, no amount of visual knowledge is enough.

Week 3–4: Intuition & Visual Language
This is where you learn to speak the language of what you've always been sensing. Color, value, variety, composition — not as rules to follow, but as tools that sharpen what your intuition is already doing. Expression and structure stop competing. They start working together.

Week 5–6: Intention & Process
This is where the frustration stops. You develop a real process for evaluating your paintings — one you can return to every time a painting stops making sense. Instead of adding layer after layer hoping something works, you start seeing clearly what your canvas actually needs and why.

Week 7–8: Independence & Confidence
This is where everything comes together. You learn to evaluate your own work, trust your own eye, and finish paintings without looking for outside validation. You leave with more than knowledge — you leave with a way of working that is completely yours.

Plus two things for the hard days: a short encouragement audio for when doubt creeps in, and a printable painting guide to help you begin, move forward, and know when to stop.

Here's How I'll Support You

  • 8 Weeks of In-Depth Video Modules
One module releases each week — so the learning aligns directly with your live feedback call and what you're working on in the studio. You're never ahead of yourself or behind.
  • Access to All Course Materials & Future Updates.
You'll have access to everything for as long as I teach Living Abstracts. This isn't a course that disappears after 8 weeks.
  • 8 Weekly Live Feedback Sessions —Maximum 5 Artists Per Call
Each week I look at your actual paintings and give you direct, specific feedback on exactly where you are. Not general advice. Not watching someone else get feedback and hoping it applies. Your work, your decisions, your next step.
  • Daily Support in a Private Community
I'm in the community every weekday during the 8 weeks — responding to your work, answering questions, and helping you stay connected to your process.
  • A Small, Committed Cohort of Abstract Artists

You'll be surrounded by a small group of dedicated artists who understand exactly where you are — and who make the journey richer because of it. When everyone in the group is truly committed, the learning goes deeper than it ever could alone.

Are we a good match?

This mentorship is for dedicated, intermediate abstract artists who are committed to showing up and doing the work — because they know that commitment is what makes the difference.

You are not a beginner. You have been painting for a while — and sometimes your work feels strong and completely yours. But then the next painting falls apart and you cannot figure out why. That inconsistency is frustrating. It leads to hesitation. Second-guessing. Overworking. Walking away from paintings before they are done.

You are tired of jumping from course to course collecting bits and pieces that never quite connect. You don't want partial answers anymore. You want to understand what your canvas actually needs so you can make clear, strong decisions.

You have compared yourself to other artists and quietly wondered what you are missing. That feeling is not a character flaw. It is a sign that you are ready for a different kind of teaching.

“An incredibly rewarding course.”

Cathy is a clear and inspiring teacher. I had so many “AHA” moments, and the group sessions were especially powerful. I’ve learned so much and feel deeply grateful.

Eila

“This gave me more than I expected — and more than other courses ever did.”

Other courses taught me to copy. This one helped me create with confidence. Cathy’s teaching gave me the tools, insight, and support I needed to grow as an artist — on my own terms. I felt truly seen and guided every step of the way.

Anita

“Everything Finally makes sense!”

I’ve taken other online courses and been part of painting clubs, but Cathy explains  composition and color mixing so clearly, that everything finally makes sense. Painting is so much easier — and more fun — now that I understand what I’m doing.

Britt
